2021 CA Budget Investments in Financial Aid and Education Data
The 2020-21 California Budget included major investments in college affordability that will go far in supporting underserved Californians' ability to get to and through college successfully while reducing their reliance on overly burdensome debt and work hours. Included alongside these momentous investments is also significant funding for high quality education data statewide, which will allow policymakers, educators, and the public to better understand and address disparities in educational and economic opportunities, ensure accountability over taxpayer expenditures, and improve outcomes for students throughout California.

Please join The Institute for College Access & Success (TICAS) in a conversation with legislative staff, student leadership, and other higher education experts to learn more about California's new and historic investments in state need-based financial aid and statewide educational data. We will discuss:

-the California Community College Expanded Entitlement Cal Grant,
-enhanced Cal Grant access award for former foster youth to help cover non-tuition college costs,
-efforts to ensure all high school seniors receive support in filing financial aid applications,
-the development of the California Cradle-to-Career data system, and
-funding for the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) to gather data on workforce outcomes at for-profit colleges in California.

This virtual briefing is for legislative staffers, both new and seasoned, and will highlight key information you can bring back to your districts to ensure constituents are aware of and understand how new state need-based financial aid programs may help them or someone they know.
